    Local parks and recreation areas include Brookside Park, Ponderosa Farm Park, Ash Brook Reservation and the Shackamaxon Country Club.

    The Shackamaxon Country Club is a private golf course and banquet facility within Scotch Plains.

    Many of the local parks contain picnic areas, various sports activities and golfing fields.

    Stage House Tavern, Grillestone Restaurant, and Osaka Japanese Cuisine and the last-in-state Charlie Brown’s are examples of diverse restaurants within Scotch Plains.

    Olympia Plaza has unique shops like Out of Bounds Snowboards. Blue Star Shopping Center has shopping staples including Marshalls, GameStop and Kohls. Strolling along central streets in town, you’ll find experiences and specialty shops such as Zen Float Center, The Bike Stand, Uptown Vintage, and Duke’s Pet Den.

    A drive along finds Rt. 22 dotted with eateries and specialty shops including McDonald’s, Subslingers, and Wild Birds Unlimited.

    The Mission of the Scotch Plains - Fanwood Public Schools is to educate every student to become a confident and caring life-long learner who can communicate and contribute positively to the rapidly changing world. The district, in cooperation with the community, will provide an academic environment which values excellence, initiative and diversity.

    Public school students in Scotch Plains attend the schools of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Regional School District, which serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from the Borough of Fanwood and the Township of Scotch Plains. The district has five elementary schools (PreK-Grade 4), two middle schools (Grades 5–8) and a comprehensive high school (Grades 9–12), all of which are located in Scotch Plains.

With Scotch Plains’ close proximity to Newark, Jersey City, and New York, it’s easily accessed by many modes of public transportation, but a car or bike may be beneficial.
